Though something did occur to me last night

You're right that Ronaldo sucked in a lot of French defenders, always 2 sometimes even 3. But you know what? Those defenders hardly ever went near him. They usually carefully stayed a yard or so away, shepherding him, trying to block the pass or the cross, NOT trying to tackle him.

It did occur to me that they had all been told not to get anywhere near the diving little f**ker, because they KNEW that if they did he would hurl himself to the floor and get a freekick (like his disgraceful dive in the box). I can remember only a couple of proper "contact" tackles on him all night, one of which resulted in a free kick.

So he's made himself look better last night by establishing a reputation for being brilliant at conning referees.

And also France knew they could afford to stand off him a little bit because his end product is weak.
