i've just been in a massive old underground victorian brick kiln

in my village. never knew such things existed! i am installing a f**k off pump in an old well i've uncovered in my garden and to support the pump etc i need to have some sort of steel framed suspension contraption made to go over the top. bloke up the road is a metalsmith/artist and he says that he does metal favrication no job too small on his ad. so he says come up tonight and we can chat it over. after we've chatted and come up with a plan he says "if you've got time i can show you my old well and the brick kiln.

bloody hell the brick kiln is massive and completely undergound about twice my height and about twenty odd feet wide. there's a steep brick path down to it then like an entrance chamber where they stored the firewood and then it leads into this massive kiln.

the metalsmith guy reckons that the bricks for my house were most likely made in there. now it's a home for 4 types of bats during the winter where they go to hybernate.

the victorians were bloody brilliant
