Careless trip ruling football penalty:
A careless trip committed by a defender inside their own penalty area results in a penalty kick for the attacking team, but no disciplinary card (yellow or red) is issued to the defender for the foul itself.
According to IFAB Law 12 (Fouls and Misconduct), a trip or an attempt to trip is a direct free kick offence. When any direct free kick offence occurs inside a player's own penalty area while the ball is in play, it is automatically upgraded to a penalty kick.
How "Careless" is Defined
The International Football Association Board (IFAB) categorises physical fouls into three levels of severity:
Careless: The player shows a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge, or acts without precaution. This requires no disciplinary sanction (no card).
