I would argue that Scandinavian social democracy is a better model than the UK

Which is anglo-saxon capitalism pretending that it can also afford European levels of public services.

Scandi countries have higher taxes but are still wealthy with good public services. Not perfect but certainly disproving the idea that higher taxes = economic stagnation.
