I think doing a bit each is actually a pretty big deal though

Marginal gains and all that. We don’t all have to become vegetarians but eat a vegan meal twice a week and try to buy meat as ethically as you can, that will make a difference if many people do it.

Buy less, buy better. You consume less and it lasts longer. The problem is the hurdle of the initial purchase. A better off person can afford to buy a pair of shoes which last years, keeping their feet dry and healthy. A poorer person has to buy a cheaper pair, more often, so costing more in the long run. They will also have unhealthier feet as a result. (To paraphrase Terry Pratchett, I think).
