also I wondered - for England, because we're basically last to start, if we got to the final we'd have played our 8 games over 32 days. Whereas the first teams to start the tournament would have had the same number of games spread across 38 days (nearly 20% longer).

Bit of a difference (particularly if it's hot), you'd have thought?
