Talking of the size of different World Cups - a minor Scotland irritation of mine

Pundits suggesting that Scotland qualifying for the knockout stages would be some kind of landmark and a first that no other Scottish team has achieved. That this would somehow elevate them above those teams.

If they do get into the knockout stages they will be in the last 32 - but in 1974 and 78 they were already in the last 16 just by being there and in 82, 86 and 90 they were in the final 24.

Getting to the knockout stages of this World Cup is not even a comparable achievement, let alone better.
