I think the public message of "we really rate him" is in part to try and support him as a human as confidence seems to be an issue for him. Secondly, Knapper trying to protect himself, as he doesn't want to publicly admit he has blown a load of money on a player who is not suited to the English game and thirdly, the club trying to protect their asset so that it retains some sort of value in the player after 18 months of very little.
