I've read all three of Peace's football novels

The Damned United is incredible, but I thought Red or Dead and Munichs don't really get to much that a good biography or history couldn't. I think that's because of the fallout from The Damned United - there are moments in the other two where I thought "That's interesting - go into that" but he doesn't, because I think he didn't want to upset people in the same way. Be interested to hear what you make of it, anyway ...
