Great voice, sure, and an Interesting and complex person, but you have to take into account the MOR dross that comprised a lot of their material. It’s bland. I’d say Nina Simone and many of the great jazz voices like Ella Fitzgerald had the voices and the songs and were challenging characters. Then there’s Patti Smith, Janis Joplin and Mama Cass and others who, it could be argued, took a male dominated rock world on at their own game and moved it forward. Debbie Harry and Siouxsie?
