Have to admit I really wanted the Cup final I was at tonight not to go to extra-time

But I see straight-to-penalties a lot in non-League tournaments and play-offs and it always feels so tinpot.

I remember back in the 1990s when people were desperate to find any way to end a match other than penalties and none of them worked - pens are better than any other alternative but still think they should be a last resort. (And I often like the tension of extra-time ...)
