While he couldn't make good players world beaters, through lack of fitness he turned good players into bad ones.

Political promises are normally related to making huge positive changes.

Can you imagine a political speech where they honestly say...."while nothing will change much but we do promise not to tank the economy"....

To me that's a realistic goal.
But people don't want to hear it.
