Shall I compare thee to a drummer’s day?

Thou art more steady and more metronomic:
Rough sticks do shake the snares in concert play,
And every set declines to something comic;
Sometime too loud the crashing cymbals roar,
And often is the hi-hat out of time;
And every drum from drums sometime declines,
By sweat or beer or sticks misplaced in grime;
But thy eternal groove shall never fade,
Nor lose possession of that pocket deep;
Nor shall the soundman say thou wast off-beat,
When in eternal fills thy rhythms keep:
So long as clubs can pulse and crowds can sway,
So lives this groove, and this gives beat to play.
