But also we were in a better position - Idah had Championship, Premier League and international experience, and let's be honest he had runs of games when he looked a talent but usually ended in injury and then he came back looking bereft of confidence. He had then also scored critical goals for Celtic and the fans wanted him, which always puts pressure on them to buy. At the time Championship strikers were commanding ridiculous fees, and we didn't really need to sell, so it really did put us in a strong position.
Idah also had to deal with the crowd on his back at a very young age. He really was scapegoated a lot. We haven't yet seen how Makama and Toure would deal with that (let's hope we never do).
Makama was in League One, had really only stood out the season before, would have been on a far less well paid contract and the offer we made might sound like peanuts to us but it was a club record for Lincoln. Toure was really a gamble, as Randers are playing a much lower level than Norwich and we are in a far more physically demanding league with far less time on the ball. But again, he would also have been on far less a week on his contract, and the 2.5m we paid may feel low to us but it was the second highest transfer ever received by Randers.
We got rid of what we knew for a really good price because the loan at Celtic had pushed that price up, and we took gambles on Makama and Toure which have turned out to wins (if we can keep them fit....).
And finally, and most important, Idah hasn't played for us since at least January 2024. We signed Makama in summer 2025 and Toure in winter 2026.
Idah was replaced, initially, by Sydney van Hooijdonk.... And then once we sold him in summer 2024, we replaced him with Crnac for more than 9m. Has Crnac really been that much better than Idah overall so far?
