I think we're really short of decent strikers

I think even if we'd taken Defoe, we'd have (rightly) ended up playing exactly the same team we actually played.

And once Rooney was red-carded, it still would have been Crouch coming on to play on his own.

So I think it would have made absolutely no difference.
