You don’t know that but

What I find curious is that many people I know who are actually far (and in some examples even extreme) right in their beliefs spend an awful lot of time trying to deny either the extent of their opinions, or the political definition of them. You’d think they’d have the balls to just own it.

They’ll hide behind the fabrication that “I’m only against illegal immigration” and yet cite numbers of (overwhelmingly legal) immigrants in certain areas as evidence of a failing Britain. They’ll claim immigrants bleed us dry on benefits yet that they are taking our jobs. They’ll talk about people born in Britain with the same bias as they have with illegal immigrants, especially where crime is involved.

And then label anything to the left of that as looney hard left. I get this label all the time. I have some beliefs that are more socialist and others that are more right leaning. I’d consider myself a centrist overall.

However it seems that all “political” debate these days centres around immigration only, and again I think it’s “politics” has become a useful disguise for bigotry. Bigotry is not political.
