plenty of nice countryside around, and you can always spend half a day in Harrogate or go over to the seaside.
The old city is pleasant enough although York Minster costs £20 to look around (I didn't bother), it's very crowded and touristy, and avoid the centre on Saturday night like the plague - people travel from all over Yorkshire to have a fight. (Friends from the area tell me people used to lay on coaches from all over the county.)
But then, I really like Bradford, so maybe I'm not to be trusted?
