Just saw the Tony Powell documentary.

Recommend it - very personal film about someone who didn't feel able to be open about his sexuality and how difficult that made things not just for him, but for his family, including his daughters. There's lots of sadness, past and present, but he comes across as stoic - and the classic bottle-it-all-up Brit - and has a very dry, deadpan sense of humour.

There are nice interviews with a few old teammates - Kevin Bond, John Ryan and Mick McGuire - and his family, as well as his friends in California. (His relationship with the trans woman he knows at the motel is really funny and sweet.) There's not so much social context - it's taken as read that there's homophobia everywhere, shown mainly with a clip of Thatcher at the Tory conference in 1987 - but it's very touching and moving. With quite a twist at the end!

Also - watch closely when they shown Tony's brick in the Wall of Fame, you'll see one or two other familiar names ...
