Magilton, Southgate, Dowie and to a smaller extent Roeder were all appointed for exactly this reason; a real lack of any alternate manager that is capable of taking their respective clubs forward
Roeder got the job at Newcastle on merit, nothing to do with a risk, he had a trial, it worked out, and it in the main, fans and the board were pleased to take on someone that had got Newcastle winning again
