I don't think anyone is suggesting that footballers should be compelled to

Just that we're talking about thousands of people, of whom one is openly gay. Whereas I imagine most people on this board who work with teams of any size probably work with openly gay people. Football is quite different in that respect, and not, I'd suggest, in a good way.
