Calling out individuals, having a pop at the young players and saying they needed to improve or they wouldn’t get anywhere. I thought it was unusual to see a manager slag off players in open.l like that.

That sort of thing can work temporarily, but the literature suggests it’s not a winning long term strategy. Your “underlings” may feel some motivation to avoid a bollicking in the short run, but done too often they’ll get numb to it, won’t actually learn anything specific from it, and ultimately will just to be keen to get away from their toxic boss. Run through walls for you? Nah, f**k off.
