Primary school for me was a catholic school run by monks…

… so they believed heartily in corporal punishment, regularly and enthusiastically administered. In the words of the Go-Between, the past is a different country. In my case it was also literally a different country, at that time. But as a blue-eyed blonde (in those days) boy, I wasn’t seen as trouble so only my friends tended to get the strap.

Horrible times, in quite a few ways. Not all, but quite a few.
