When Walker took over we were a reasonably established top division team, for nearly 20 years, give or take a season or two. In addition, most would accept that the gulf between the leagues, and even the top and bottom of the top division, was not anywhere near what it is now.
Farke had to adapt a squad to the end of parachute payments, a major restructuring, and in his first big job and as a first foreign manager at a fairly parochial provincial club. He was then given little financial backing when he did win promotion.
So it's not quite as cut and dried as one might think.
