And while I agree Iwan had a track record at this level when we signed him, so did Peter Thorne, although he was a lot older - and it showed. Howard, who's age falls between those two did well last season, (think it was his first at this level) in a team which played decent football most of the time and scored 14 goals, a decent return. He has consistently scored goals in League 1, so he's no mug. I reckon he'll get about a dozen goals for us at least if he signs. Plus, given his size, will allow us to mix it up and be more of a threat at set pieces again, assuming someone learns how to take a decent corner/free kick.

Howard may not be young, but he's still young enough to get 2 maybe 3 decent seasons out of. Yes, he'll have no sell on value, unless he turns into something of an evergreen Windass, but he's probably the best we can afford at the moment. Sad, but probably true.
