I didn't say mine plugs in to the cigarette lighter...

Mine has a f**k off big cable that attaches to the battery and earthing point.

The theory is that you are putting power in through the socket and using that as the power source.

The socket in my current car has a 35 amp fuse so maybe in theory it could handle the power but I don't need to test it as my hybrid and has a button to press to transfer power from the hybrid battery to give a boost if there's a flat battery!
