get a multimeter or go to somewhere that does free battery checks

If you have a multimeter a reading of:

12.6V+ = healthy (engine off)

12.2–12.4V = weak

Below 12.0V = basically done

Multimeter settings for a 12V car battery:

Turn the dial to DC Voltage

Look for V⎓, V—, or V DC

Do NOT use AC voltage (V~)

Choose the right range

If it’s manual-range: set it to 20V DC

If it’s auto-range: just select DC voltage

obvs red to positive black to negative
