Yes, he demands respect. Yes, he has told players that if they dont meet his minimum demands, they wont play. But I also think its so much more than that.
Contrary to what one often reads deep motivation doesnt come from threats, or demands. It doesnt come from money either, although of course what success can lead to in terms of money is a thing for most of it, and I'm not saying it isnt. True, deep intrinsic motivation comes from buying into a vision and being so invested in it you give everything. Genuinely buying in to it, and thinking you'll do whatever it takes. Did Ronaldo become the best player in the world (arguably) because it would make him rich, even if that was probably part of it?
I think what Clement has done is sell people on what he can do for them and their careers, if they listen to him and work. Who in our squad doesnt want to play in the Premier League? Who wouldnt love a call up to their country? To play at a World Cup? Yes, to get a move to a massive club where they might win trophies and play in Europe? I think Clement has sold players on the vision that if they really commit and follow him, he'll make them much much better players. Work with me, and i'll help make you the best player you can be. And because the players can already see that he knows enough for this to be credible - he is making each player much better individually already - a load of our squad have said "yes please".
And now, he's got a squad that will run through walls for him. It's been incredible what he's done, not just in football terms, but from a leadership perspective.
