are that the obvious favourites are Germany, Argentina and Brazil but that England should defeat Portugal and do have a chance of winning it if they get the breaks.

By the way, those are most common views of foreign colleagues / friends - not Brits.

They also saw England as one of the faves per-tournament.

And they watch a s**t load of England games, not only the highlights as you suggest. We get more Premiership and England games on our standard cable channels than most get on the basic Sky packages (i.e. ALL of them live). Oh, and Primera Liga too so plenty of chance to watch Beckham.

Difference is they don't look at England through the inverse-rose-tinted spectacles most of us do.
