FC Barcelona is not only working to improve its first team, but also its youth academy, developing promising players at La Masia. The Catalan club continues to monitor youth academies around the world and, according to MD, is now pursuing Ajay Tavares, an English winger from Norwich City's youth team, who turns 16 on December 28th. Tavares also holds a European passport, which would allow him to leave the UK before turning 18.
He is a powerful left winger who can also play as a center forward. Despite his age, Tavares is physically very strong, as evidenced by his high level of performance against players two and three years older than him.
After playing for the U15 and U16 teams, he has now reached the England U17 squad. At St. George's Park, they speak very highly of Tavares, and several big clubs have been keeping an eye on him, not just in the UK.
However, it seems that Barça, which is intensifying its search for promising young players to develop at La Masia, is well-positioned to sign the young English talent. They have moved quickly and effectively despite the competition.
