In a lot of cases, yes

Loads of fixtures happen on Saturday mornings. Mainly football and sometimes rugby here in Norfolk. Cricket is largely public school only, and places like Wymondham College. Many trips also happen at weekends and in school holidays.

(Since academies, I don’t think of schools as state or private; they all belong to trusts so are essentially private with state funding, but that’s a different issue. They still can’t or won’t afford the resources to run cricket.)
