I'd say he was lucky

The second shooter was on the bridge taking pops at him. Seems to have at least winged the second civilian who threw something at him.

I was wondering why he put the gun down. I am thinking perhaps he through forward to the moment the police marksmen would arrive and he'd be left holding the weapon hiding behind a tree....
