His voice had gone here, he was going deaf in one ear

That's why he called it a day after this clip but he recorded another album and his hearing has returned enough for him to perform them. It's a lovely album. Obviously his voice isn't what it was but, unlike Rod, his voice really never was his strong suit anyway.
