I think the second language is an advantage in some ways

Provided you’re able to speak it reasonably, that is. Native speakers will use slang, non-words and meta speak (like management talk, for example) and as a result will muddle their message. When you’re talking to other FL speakers, let’s say a 20 year old French speaker from Senegal, telling them “it’s all about your group responsibility” or some nonsense, won’t help him know what you mean. Likewise talking to journalists and fans looking for micro-nuances in press conferences. If you’re speaking a second language, on the other hand, you simplify what you want to say and are sometimes limited, in a good way, by a lack of extraneous cultural interference.
