Ask Sunderland that

Incidentally recent experience (Forest/Sunderland) suggests that maybe the best way to achieve survival in the Prem is to get promoted with a load of players either on loan or out of contract at the end of the season, so that you can spend your Prem money on actual Prem quality players rather than on giving pay rises to a load of contracted Championship standard players.
