The mini-budget followed weeks later.
It's looking awfully like Delia's departure has had a pretty similar impact on this club. Even when we went down to League 1 in 2009, there wasn't anger towards her half as much as exasperation. Frustration. Pleas to just get some proper football people in - but most still loved her.
Mark Attanasio's taken one of the most patient, placid, understanding fanbases anywhere in football... and turned it into a one part apoplectic, one part apathetic, one part hopelessly resigned support as the club plummets towards the third tier. That's an astonishing feat.
No matter how bad things got under Delia, the point was: at least she cared. We all knew that. Does Attanasio care? We don't know that at all. Because this is ultimately on him. He's the man at the top; he makes the ultimate decisions. And he should've, as they say in the US, cleaned house weeks ago. Knapper, Manning, Webber and Adams should ALL be gone... but they're all still there.
Instead, one short trip to the UK was practically hailed - when it's the absolute bare minimum from, here's the thing, an absentee owner. Hence the helplessness so many people feel: because he's not there. The club is either silent or somehow making things even worse for itself in its unbelievably tone deaf communication.
Ever since the centenary season, NCFC have hung onto close to 10,000 extra paying supporters. Those numbers made the relative success of the yo-yo years possible. Well - when the club treats them like this, insults their intelligence to this extent, they're gonna start finding something better to do on a Saturday afternoon. And if that happens, how do we even get out of League 1, especially given how few quality players we have now?
Everything is wrong. Absolutely everything. Knapper's a joke. Manning isn't waving, but drowning - any other club anywhere would've sacked him weeks ago. Adams is about as useful as a cardboard cutout; and Webber's in her position because of purest nepotism, and her expertise lies in losing friends and alienating people.
Get them all out now, Mark. Or else. This isn't baseball; you don't get to ride out terrible seasons with no real consequences. Instead, what's going on right now could impact this club horribly for many years. And all but permanently reduce it in status, size and even goodwill surrounding it.
