I find myself making the argument as much at work as well, where people haven't grasped the differences and the different risks.
I think people extrapolate from outliers (and conflate bits of the old schemes and bits from police/firefighters etc who trad could retire at 50, and end up with an impression that either doesn't exist or isn't representative of the reality of 99.9999% of people).
I mean, if I work to 68, the final pension figures I'd get would look great against my salary (presuming nothing changes radically in the next two decades). But the 68 retirement age is hugely significant and I'll have worked for 46 years by that stage... Jeepers.
