The club chaplain speaks

Time for Calm.

I’ve been off social media for a long time, but today I feel strongly moved to speak up after witnessing some deeply troubling scenes following Norwich City’s 2–0 defeat to Hull City at Carrow Road. As Club Chaplain, I feel a responsibility to share this.

As I was leaving the stadium, I saw some of the players’ wives, children, and even young babies exiting the South Stand — only to be met with verbal abuse from hundreds of Norwich City supporters shouting horrendous insults. One young mum broke down in tears, clutching her baby, and said, “What have I done to deserve this?”

Watching this unfold reminded me again that, however passionate, frustrated, or angry we might feel after a football match, it is never right to abuse anyone. These are human beings — families — who share the same highs and lows that we all experience as supporters. They love this club too. None of them deserve to be targets for our pain or disappointment.

Let’s take a step back. Let’s remember who we are — a community built on dignity and and respect.
