To me that's not acceptable and they should've been on the same page. Either the goal was a long term project under JHT to build a young side and progress each season to ultimately get to the Prem or we needed a manager who had a proven track record of top 6 finishes and promotions to hit the ground running and get us in contention.

At the beginning Knapper recruited players for a long term plan with little focus on players ready for the championship (Schwartau, McConville and Wright etc). If the board and sporting director were on the same page regarding needing top 6 then I think more experienced players would've been brought in.

Overall the mess we are in now is due to this muddled approach to recruitment and a lack of clear direction as to what the aims for the club are.
