There was no greater fan involvement with Huckerby's fee

That was a combination of Huckerby talking Man City into setting as realistic price as possible, Norwich pushing the boat out when in financial trouble urged on by fans and playing squad alike, Huckerby choosing Norwich over WBA who had also made an offer and then him taking a big pay cut and his WAGES being funded by a local businessman (Carl Moore) and I seem to remember something about him also ditching his agent who was pushing for higher fee and wages but that part might be urban legend.

Also, keeping him in subsequent seasons (according to Huckerby) also meant him taking four pay cuts - a cut with each contract - and turning down agent approaches to go to several other clubs including Liverpool and Celtic.

Huckerby wasn't the best player we ever had. Possibly not even the best left winger we ever had, but given all the circumstances he was probably the greatest signing we ever achieved and arguably the most loyal player we have ever had (there were more loyal but they didn't all really have so many changes to leave for better).
