sterling morrison, a founding member of vhe velvet underground worked as a tugboat captain

in Houston, Texas, after leaving the band in 1971. He began working on the tugs to supplement his income while pursuing a doctorate in English literature and was eventually licensed as a master mariner, captaining a tugboat throughout the 1980s.
