herbie flowers played the bass line on walk on the wild side, and he also wrote the number

one hit grandad sung by clive dunn. he also provided the double-tracked bass riff for "rock on" by david essex. the distinct, almost percussive bass sound was achieved by recording two separate bass parts with different pitches and applying a "slapback" delay effect, creating a unique polyrhythmic groove. yeah baby.
