They got poor advice..... isnt that exactly what they are saying.

On one hand you are saying they are thick footballers.

I would say they are experts in one field but not in another.

They have to rely on expert advice.
If these experts are telling them that these tax avoidance schemes are totally legal how is a humble footballer meant to refute that with no expertise in that field.

As for high street bank advice, look up the RDR for 2013 which caused most high street banks to pull out of financial advice.
But you should know that.
