Port Vale
The Building: The Port Vale House, a villa where the club's founding members held their first meetings.
The Story: The club was formed in 1876 and took its name from the house where the meetings were held. The house itself was named after the valley of ports on the Trent and Mersey Canal, making it a building named after a geographical feature, which a team was then named after.
Heart of Midlothian
The Building: The Heart of Midlothian, a former jail on Edinburgh's Royal Mile (and also the name of a famous mosaic on the street).
The Story: The club was formed in 1874 and took its name from the old jail (which was demolished in 1817 but remained a famous local landmark). The name itself comes from the novel The Heart of Midlothian by Sir Walter Scott. A local dance hall club of the same name also inspired the football team's founders.
