Millwall, a decent, established and settled team with a good manager, outthought us and in the end won quite comfortably.
Portsmouth, only fairly recently promoted and narrowly avoided relegation last season, conceded two slack goals but really could have got a lot more out of that game. We were a bit lucky.
I wasn’t at the Middlesbrough game, so can’t judge, but careless mistakes are not the hallmark of a good team.
Watford were crap, and under strength. We did beat them, but they put us under a fair bit of pressure after they made subs at half time. I’m not sure much can be taken from that game.
Southampton made it look easy. We did have some chances, but they could have had several more goals.
Núñez going isn’t the end of the world, but it does weaken us. He is a reliable threat from set pieces and we’ll miss that. What is also weakening us is relying on so many new signings for two seasons in a row. We needed change, but this much? Team upheaval takes a long time to take effect - do we have that long?
