How are you ever going to contribute to a respectful debate when your presumption is that most of the people that do not share your opinion are divs, retards, imbeciles, smug and ridiculous? Answer - you cant.

I think most people currently share your mindset about [insert section of society]. For you its "the left" (whatever that even means) and/or "vast amounts of society". That's why the world feels "so divided" to you, as you have already partitioned everyone in your mind. And a lot of people are with you, regardless of the "side" they have picked.

Personally, I blame social media.
