My Take.

I used to do this a lot.
Have done in the last 12 months.

Drive to Upminster. Big car park.
Then take the District line to Westminster. Change onto Jubilee northbound to Wembley

Upminster has some decent pubs/curry houses etc. The Junction at Upminster station is ok. Sports on etc
