Yeah I remember being quite excited by it

Getting the boot early in the prem after getting Newcastle promoted with +100 points, was generally considered quite harsh and peak Ashley. I think their was a general keenness to see how he'd do given a decent chance in the Prem.

Not really a safe option seeing as he didn't have a lot of prem experience.
