Why?

one reason might be that early during the January transfer window we had not enough cash to pay either the fee or the wages of Carl Robinson. Perhaps the directors didn't have enough cash of their own to sub the purchase of anyone decent.
And when the cash did become available in the last week of the window the club opted to buy Earnie with it.
