If "pragmatic" football (by which I presume to mean not possession based, more direct, etc) trumps 4-3-3 possession based technical football, why don't more successful teams play it?
I don't think it's about style, "philosophy", tactics, or whatever you want to call it. Look at the amount of intensity, pace, fitness and intelligence the top teams have. I think we, or any promoted team, won't be able to compete no matter what type of football. A combination of buying all the best players, staff and facilities and (in my opinion) dodgy medical practices (by which I mean I don't think it's unreasonable to suspect possibilities of doping at the top level) have effectively killed what we used to know as the competitive football pyramid.
Is this not true?
