It got mentioned on here a few days ago on the anniversary...

...but i flipped the telly over to a BBC channel in order to get access to BBC Sounds (to play another ep of the second series of Call Jonathan Pie) and just happened to catch the last third of a repeat of Bradford City fire doc, neatly in time for some fire expert to talk us through the rolling footage just as the fire had started.

I was just over a month away from my sixth birthday when it happened (11/5/85) and had also never seen the older doc that got recommended on here recently. So i'd never seen the footage before and what i saw and the eye witness interviews in the remainder of the doc hit hard.

but i stopped myself from quickly turning over as i felt it was something i ought to watch out of some sort of respect for those affected. i should probably watch the first hour on iplayer (instead of CJP as i'm not in the mood for political bantz any more)...

i remember balling my eyes out when stood on the terrace at hillsborough for a game that fell on one of their anniversaries (something like the 15th or 17th...checks notes: yep, 17th: 15/4/06, so to the day). (lost one-nil) 2,292 in the away end for a 30,755 attendance.

Thankfully the other time i've been was after the anniversary as i sat with my wednesday mate in the home end opposite the away end (on 6/5/07 which was the end of season game & dion & hucks' farewell, a 3-2 loss with earnshaw & dion scoring & hucks getting grief for 'diving' (being fouled) by the home fans that i rallied against

...anyway, i digress as i was distracted by my stats notepads...

also thankfully, i did bradford at the start of the season*, so didnt see one of their emotional end of season tributes, which had me bawling tonight in the doc.
*9/8/03, 2-2 rivers pen & easton and a missed pen for bradford on a baking hot day (shirt off in the stands).

...right, i'd best get the doc up and running on iplayer...
